Downtown Chicago Hotel Room Workout

No excuses!

Hubby and I were away for our anniversary.

I like to eat.

I’m also in a routine.

I got up early and got some killer workouts in before he got up.

Perfect way to get my time in as well as enjoy the rest of the day with him!

Don’t make excuses for yourself. Get it on paper that you are going to do it, stick to it, and get it DONE!

5 Tips for Saving Money on a Vacation

We just returned from a week’s vacation downtown (Chicago).

I grew up in the city, and we live in the suburbs now.

We felt this was a good getaway for us while Anthony could stay with my parents in the city a few days, just minutes away.

Staying in a hotel COULD mean lots of money spent on activities and food.

Without having a place to house leftovers if you are in a standard room, what are you to do?

This is what we did:

1. Packed snacks for midmorning/midafternoon: baked chips, larabars, dried fruit, and raw almonds.

2. Brought our own breakfast. We both drink Shakeology, so simple to pack one box of almond milk, Magic Bullet, and the stash of shake powder in our bag. Ice at the hotel to blend with!

3. Eat one nice meal out each day. We chose to eat our bigger meal at lunch time most days so as to save on the dinner prices and portions.

4. Research where you are going! There are tons of free things to do all over the country! Get online and Google it! Museums, parks, movies in the parks, neighborhood festivals, free concerts, parades…you name it!

5. Set a budget. Decide what you will allow yourself to spend each day and stick to it. Don’t spend JUST to “spend” since you are on vacation.

My First Shakeology Share!

This was me a year ago. Liz and I are both still drinking Shakeology today, along with a whole bunch of family and friends.

It’s curbed our cravings, given us energy to LIVE life with our toddler boys, and tastes great.

Talk about an easy way to get all your veggies for the day in one serving!

There are tons of recipes and a new flavor was just introduced at our coach summit this week.

Liz looks even more amazing now then she did then.

Send me a note if you have any questions!

Happy Friday! (As I enjoy my chocolate-y all natural breakfast today…)

Cleaning Lady and a Babysitter

Stay at home mom/business owner/nanny.

That’s me in a nutshell.

But…I’m working on my personal trainer certifications and working my business every day?

How does one accomplish GOALS and be the best MOM to her child(ren)?

Well, it took me some time to realize this…but being the best mom meant DELEGATING some tasks.

Top two things I have done in the last 6 months that have made me be able to stay on top of everything:

1. Hire a cleaning lady

2. Hire a babysitter

I grew up with that mentality that you don’t hire anyone for something that you can do all by yourself. Well, there are only 24 hours in a day, and if I want to do what’s MOST important to me, then something has to give.

I have learned that the amount of work and quality of work that can be accomplished while you are paying someone to do the little things for you will be more than worth the $ you spend.

I have a high school girl that we know and trust come twice a week for 2 hours in the afternoon. She plays with Anthony while I go down the hall in a study room and study for my certifications and work on my business.

I just can’t do that with A around. IMPOSSIBLE

The time I have knowing that Kelly is coming every other week to clean is fabulous too. Instead of Anthony climbing on me while I get up to clean the high cabinets or trailing behind me begging to use the dustbuster vacuum, I can spend that time playing with him.

Take a look at your goals and priorities.

What can you delegate out so that you can be a better spouse/parent, etc?

If you are in the Chicagoland area and want a referral for a cleaning lady, let me know. She’s a friend of mine from college.

5 Tips for FUN Learning This Summer

Air Circulation When Exercising

While reading my Essentials of Exercise Science book yesterday for my personal trainer certification, I came across a really interesting fact.

As a teacher, activating prior knowledge, and then making connections while reading are both really key reading strategies we use with our students in order to improve reading comprehension.

So, today, you are my students! 😉

When you exercise, what is the climate of the room?

Do you like it warm or cooler?

Do you exercise outside?

Do you have a fan running while you workout?

These are things I never thought much of.

When I workout, if I’m chilly to start, I start with a tshirt or long sleeve shirt on, and then usually strip down to a tank or sports bra as my body warms up. I usually like it warmer in the room as I feel I sweat more…(burn more calories in my head 🙂 )

When working out, air circulation is critical for your body to cool off.

Sweating is the body’s way of cooling off. The blood moves closer to the skin level so that it can cool off near the surface, which is near the air.

If there is limited air movement around you, the air around you will become saturated with the sweat molecules (think evaporation) and then the air will be more like a humid rain forest.

Not a very cool place for your body to seek refuge as you continue your workout!

Actually, could be dangerous, as you could end up suffering from heat exhaustion, etc.

This reminds me of a day back in April right before Easter. I was doing a TurboFire HIIT workout in the bedroom before taking Anthony to get his Easter pics taken. My husband was in the shower and came into the bedroom to get his cologne. He made the comment that the room was like a sauna.

I thought he was exaggerating or trying to make me feel great for working so hard.

However, as I was reading this in my book, I recalled him saying this, and realized there was truth to his comment!

So, even if you are working out indoors, be sure your gym has a fan nearby. If you are like me, and workout at home, be sure that you have a fan or an open window in the room circulating the air. Something small I never realized could affect me!

Stay tuned…summer heat is coming soon…tips for taking care of yourself during workouts in the outdoor heat.

First Few Days of Spring and Skinny Jeans

Spring is in the air…

Time for spring cleaning, opening our windows, spending more time outside, and rotating our wardrobe to the warmer weather clothes.

Warmer weather clothes…

Many times we dread having to shed the winter sweaters that we have been able to hide behind. I recall that feeling.

I always looked forward to the warm weather for the obvious reasons of summer vacation, being outside, barbecues, and summertime festivals. But, the thought of having to fit into my capris and my lighter clothes never sat well.

It’s March 21th. Are you dreading the rotation of your closet?

Fear not! I’m here to help!

1. Looking for a free place to workout with friends? My friends Grisel and Amie and I will be hosting a FREE workout down in Shorewood on Saturday mornings at 10am. We start April 23rd. Contact me so I can get you directions, etc. Bring a friend with you and let’s sweat away the calories while we have fun together. 🙂

2. Want some virtual accountability from the comfort of your home? Round 2 of our weight loss group is starting up on April 11th. What does it cost? Returning members pay $5 and new members $10. What do you get?

Each participant is responsible for emailing me the answers to a series of accountability questions (What is your current weight? Did you reach your goal for the week? What did you do that helped/hurt you reach that goal this week? What is your goal for the week ahead? What do you plan to do this upcoming week to achieve your goal?) every Saturday. It runs from April 11th-July2nd. We have a Facebook group too and we share ideas, recipes, thoughts, questions, and inspiration. All of the prize money is divided up for the top 3 weight loss PERCENTAGE losers.

You know what’s so inspiring? 3 of my current challengers all said this week that they reached goals. Two were able to fit into pants they haven’t fit into in years and one was able to purchase a new dress for herself this weekend that was in the single digit sizes (one of her big goals). That’s what this is all about. Helping others achieve their goals.

I’m here, and would love to help YOU reach your goals.
